Planetary Rod-Chimes

These chimes are not tuned to the Hans Cousto frequencies.

These Rod-Chimes are named Planetary because they provide an individual with the qualitative feel of the planetary spheres. Each set is made with seven hand-smithed and tuned rods in a variety of metals, mounted on a wooden platform. The timbre of these chimes fills a space in a way that makes them ideal for a variety of applications including healing work and sound journeys.

The sound is characterized by a soft but present chordal drone coloured by high overtone melodies. Acoustically, these chimes are gentle, non intrusive and extremely dynamic.

The tonal character of these chimes was directly inspired by Kathleen Schlesinger’s work on the Greek Aulos. Composers and writers Elsie Hamilton and Heiner Ruland also contributed to the development of these tunings. The particular intervals that colours these chimes and their overtones are still alive in Sardinian and eastern Europe folk music.

Schlesinger rediscovered the original Greek modal scales through her study of the Aulos—an instrument closely related to the Sardinian launeddas (traditional flutes from my place of origin). According to her, each mode has a generating tone (Mese) and a root tone (Arche). The relationship between these tones distinctively permeates the mood or modal quality of each scale, resulting in tonalities that to the normal equal-tempered sense of hearing, may sound both out of tune and yet deeply beautiful. Kathleen Schlesinger work shows how profoundly different the ancient Greeks’ experience of music was.

 

Planetary Collections by Gaia Tone Art

Gaia Tone Art creates the following planetary rod-chime sets, each alchemized with crystalline frequencies corresponding to archetypes of the planets and their associated chakras.

Alchemizing the rods is a 2 steps process unique to Gaia Tone Art. This process combines the channeling of the qualitative presence and attributes of specific crystalline frequencies during the lengthy forming process of the metal, with water energized with the specific crystalline frequencies during the firing of the formed metal.

Gold
